Careers at Sigma We classify potential employees into four broad areas: Trainee Planner/Engineer: A person with an undergraduate degree and, preferably, some military background. Engineering, architectural or planning degrees and persons with commissioned military service may qualify for higher pay. Individuals will be trained in the master planning process, the Army real property classification system, real property management, the use of Army legacy real property master planning tools, the data flow associated with real property master planning systems, the principles of and techniques for managing the tabulation of existing and required facilities (TAB), and obtain first hand experience using the legacy systems in an office and in a field environment. This phase will normally last approximately 6 - 9 months depending on previous experience and depth of knowledge at the time of employment. It will normally include at least one trip to an Army installation in support of a project. Junior Planner/Engineer: A person who meets all the requirements for a Trainee Planner/Engineer and is also able to operate the Facility Planning System (FPS) and the Real Property Planning and Analysis System (RPLANS) and perform tasks with them based on guidance from a planner/engineer or senior planner/engineer. With guidance, individual can drill up and down through planning systems, explain the general factors that generate facility allowances in a particular situation and identify basic factors that might justify a facility requirement. A junior planner/engineer would accompany a planner/engineer or senior planner/engineer on site visits in a supporting role as well as to gather first hand field experience while meeting key people in the planning community. A Junior Planner/Engineer would also develop familiarity with the relevant documents and systems. Planner/Engineer: A person who meets all the requirements for a Junior Planner/Engineer and is also able to accomplish routine analytical tasks without supervision and carry out the tasks in a project plan on time and within budget A planner/engineer would be able to operate all of the Army legacy tools related to TAB management and be able to identify the general corrective actions needed to eliminate discrepancies or anomalies in system output (i.e., corrections to force structure data, assets data or requirements data). This person is also able to lead a team in performing analysis in the field and supervising routine tasks performed by a junior planner/engineer or trainee, and support formal TAB management workshops. Senior Planner/Engineer: A person who meets all of the requirements for a Planner/Engineer and is also able to plan, organize and explain the elements of a project, develop a project plan to ensure that all tasks associated within a delivery order are accomplished and that all documentation associated with a project is assembled and ready for a principle's review and approval. A senior planner/engineer must be able to develop estimates of hours and dollars needed to complete a proposed project based on analysis of a scope of work. A senior planner/engineer is capable of identifying potential markets for Sigma, marketing Sigma's capabilities to appropriate potential clients as well as marketing additional work to existing clients.
